Unique History
In the early 1830s, iron ore was discovered in the bedrock at Rosfors. In 1838, 15 local farmers and workers founded a mining company. Initially, the mill produced only pig iron, but over time a foundry and mechanical workshop were added, allowing them to manufacture pots, pans, iron stoves, and more. A sawmill and a mill were also built so the estate could be self-sufficient in timber and flour. The mill operated until 1940, when the sawmill and dam were destroyed in a collapse. The blast furnace has been reconstructed, but only the foundations and remains of the furnace, smithy, charcoal house, and sawmill survive today.

A Living Agricultural Landscape
Around the estate, there were fertile fields and pastures used to feed the mill’s livestock. Even today, the valley remains a living agricultural landscape with pastures and hay meadows. On the cultivated land, the barns are grouped in clusters of four, a formation that is unusual for the region.
